MythBusters blamed for 7 year old getting burned

From the Cythiana Democrat:
A 7-year-old Cynthiana girl received first-, second- and third-degree burns last week after she attempted a stunt she saw on television.

Reagan Sadler reportedly saw an episode of The Discovery Channel's MythBusters and tried to mimic an experiment by heating a jawbreaker in the microwave. The myth was that the candy would soften.

However, in Sadler's experiment, the jawbreaker's center liquefied and the outer shell exploded when she reached into the oven. The molten candy splattered onto her hands, arms, face and chest, and hardened while searing into her flesh.

Sadler's mother, Tanya Wright, said her daughter bought the three-inch jawbreaker at the drugstore.

“It had to be like hot lava,” Wright said, noting that had she known the candy would be going into the microwave it wouldn't have been purchased.

However, Wright said she didn't know if her daughter's intention was to soften the candy, because she had broken her tooth on the jawbreaker earlier in the day or if she was curious about the television show.

“The public needs to be warned,” Wright said of children trying to copy stunts they see on television.

Here we go. The next thing you know is that the Discovery Channel will be pulling that episode. You gotta love that last line. There's a reason Adam & Jamie warn the viewers not to try anything the MythBusters do at home. I do feel bad for the girl but the mother needs to pay closer attention to what her daughter is doing.

Perhaps parents need to take responsibility for their children. That's why shows like this always say "never try this at home." They shouldn't blame the show because they can't watch after their child.

Her mom should of tried being a better parent instead of using the lame "TV did a bad job parenting my kid" excuse. Second, your always gonna have kids/adults who are risk takers, and that isn't the fault of TV.
